Co – head coach – long sprints/relays: Scott Ylkanen
Scott graduated from Mounds View in 1998, then went on to receive his degree in Human Communications with a minor in Athletic Coaching at Bethel University. He completed his master’s degree in Special Education 2009, and presently teaches in the Career & Life Transition Program in the Mounds View School District. This will be his 19th year coaching Track & Field and 17th year as Co-Head Coach with Aaron. He holds a USATF coaching education Level I certification in Track & Field. Scott also serves as the Varsity offensive coordinator for the Mounds View football program. He has been married to Nikki since July 2004, and they have 2 children (Skylar 12 and Braylon 10). They presently live in Arden Hills.
Co – head coach – jumps/sprints/relays: Aaron Redman
Aaron will be entering his 17th year co-head coaching the girls track program with Mounds View and 20th year overall coaching track. Before working with the Mounds View program he coached the co-ed jumps at Wayzata High School where he is a former graduate (’95) and a part of the 1995 MN state track and field champions. His undergraduate degree is from Bethel University (’99) and completed a master of education degree from St. Thomas University (’02). Aaron holds a USA Track and Field coaching education Level II certification in jumps. He presently teaches in the social studies department at Mounds View High School and also serves as a varsity defensive coach for the Mounds View football program. He and his wife, Maria, and boys Jacob, Elijah and Noah, presently live in Arden Hills.
Distance: Jimmy McArthur
This will be Jimmy's 11th season with the girls track and field program. He is also the head coach of the girls cross country program at Mounds View. Jimmy also serves as a teacher in the special education program at Mounds View High School. His wife is a Mounds View alum and they live in Arden Hills with their 4 children.
Throws: Rob Piersak
Rob begins his 17th year of coaching shot and discus with the Mounds View girls track and field program. He has over 40 years of coaching experience, 25 with the Mounds View soccer program and 13 with the basketball program at Mounds View. He has been teaching for 38 years in the physical education field, 35 of those at St. Odilia. Coach Piersak and his wife Deb have had two daughters (Amy and Kelly) and a son (Matt) compete in the Mounds View track and field programs.
Throws: Chet Springborn
Coach Springborn returns for a 14th season with the Mounds View girls track and field program. Chet has been a Physical Education teacher in the Mounds View school district since 1998, and currently serves at Sunnyside Elementary. In 1998 he started coaching the girls track team at MVHS in a multi-event position. He has coached the throwing events, hurdles and pole vault at various times throughout his coaching experience in track and field. He also coaches basketball and football with Irondale High School. Chet also owns a lawn sprinkling service and lives with his wife Angie and their children in Circle Pines.
Pole Vault: Matt Fleigle
Matt has been coaching girls pole vault for 14 years at Mounds View High School and is starting his second year in the NCAA at Concordia University St. Paul, a division II school.
Matt is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Kinesiology and has been pursuing his career in the sports performance world ever since. He has worked as an Aquatics and Fitness instructor as well as a Sports Performance Coach. He is now a full time business owner of Fleigle's Athletics which specifically works to train pole vaulters. Matt is CrossFit level 1 certified, USA Track and Field level 1 certified, USA Weightlifting level 1 certified, and a USATF registered coach. Matt has an all-time best of 15ft 5in (4.70m)
Together Matt and his wife Esther established their own pole vaulting club in 2017 called Fleigle’s Flyers. Matt and Esther are now the biggest competitive club in MN and the #1 the distributor of Essx pole vaulting poles in the region. Hurdles/LJ: Anna Blaske
Anna returns for her 7th season with the Mounds View program. She will be working with hurdles and jumps. Anna is a 2009 graduate of Mounds View and is a recent graduate of Winona State University where she competed in track and field for 4 seasons. She currently teaches at Chippewa Middle School in the Mounds View district.
Sprints: John Teah
John is in his 1st season with the Mounds View program. He will be working with the sprinters. He currently serves as a paraprofessional at Mounds View HS.
