Purpose vs. Goals
The philosophy of the coaching staff focuses upon the following:
- Track is part of a larger educational experience (school work 1st, life lessons, etc.).
- Create authentic relationships with athletes
- “Positive motivation goes a long way!” – coach confidence
- Strength in numbers (a place for athletes of all abilities). Track offers opportunities for every athlete to compete and identify their personal level of success.
- Utilizing multi-sport athlete from all programs – commitment to both team and personal success
- Individual improvement each day, week, season, career – fundamentally sound instruction
- Life skills development – commitment to goal setting, accountability, discipline, response to success and disappointment, hard work ethic.
- ‘Outwork’ and ‘outprepare’ the competition
- Enjoyment of track and field
The Mounds View Girls Track and Field program is built around character, commitment, and persistence. A women’s character is a reflection of her commitment to excellence in everything she does. Our athletes will set goals, work hard, and measure the price of success daily. In order to be a successful program we will recognize the value of failure. Most people fail the first time they try something, but true failure only occurs when you quit or blame someone else. As a program, we will NEVER truly fail. Our program will remain humble and represent Mounds View with the utmost respect and integrity.
Track and Field is mistakenly known as an individual sport. Our program focuses on the True Team concept. Every athlete entered in a True Team meet scores points, and therefore is vital to the overall success of our team. The experience of shared success is always better than that of individual success.
Every athlete has a chance to compete in an effort to help our team win. A typical track meet includes 18 events, at least one event for every type of athlete. We will have strength in numbers and overall participation. Every type of person, student and athlete is wanted and needed on this team.
Our track and field staff will enter every practice and meet with the approach that someday our program will win a State True Team Championship. On top of being knowledgeable, our staff will be passionate and enthusiastic about track and field while training our athletes. The Mustang track staff will be organized and motivated. We will place athletes in the best position possible to foster individual and team success.
Our expectations for the athletes will include a willingness to learn and compete in multiple events. Our athletes will experience the sacrifice necessary to be successful in the classroom, community, and on the track. As a whole, we will ask our athletes to commit to the goals and expectations of our program - no one is bigger then the team or program.
